Cynthia Barrere, of Prospect, a professor in the School of Nursingat Quinnipiac University, will receive the Virginia A. Henderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Research at the annual meeting of the Connecticut Nurses’ Association on Oct. 23.
The award recognizes Barrere for her research expertise as well as the impact her leadership in nursing research has had on the state, regional and national levels. The award also recognizes Barrere’s achievements in creating an atmosphere among colleagues, faculty and students that inspires scholarship and research.
Barrere joined the Quinnipiac faculty in 2004. She holds a doctorate in medical sociology from the University of Connecticut. She holds master’s degrees in sociology and nursing from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Connecticut State University.
She currently holds leadership positions in the American Holistic Nurses Association Research and Grants Committee, and the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses.
The Connecticut Nurses’ Association is the professional organization of registered nurses in Connecticut, a constituent member of the American Nurses Association.
