Quinnipiac University School of Nursing to host legislative breakfast on Oct. 19

Attendees also can participate in two workshops at the event.

The Quinnipiac University School of Nursing will host a legislative breakfast with the Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nursing Society from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Center for Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, MNH 101, at Quinnipiac, 370 Bassett Rd. This event is free and open to the public.

At 9 a.m., Laima Karosas, PhD, MSN, chair of graduate nursing programs and president of the Connecticut APRN Society, will welcome everyone to the event. Donna Montesi, DNP, APRN, of the West Haven Medical Group, will introduce and moderate the legislative panel, which will include State Sen. Mary Abrams and State Reps. Michelle Cook, William Petit, Sean Scanlon and Phil Young. They will discuss their health policy agendas for the coming year, answer questions and offer advice about how to approach constituent concerns.

“It is crucial for health care providers to understand the scope of practice process in our state in addition to having an opportunity to hear about health policy agendas from key legislators for the coming year,” said Karosas.

Attendees also can participate in two workshops at the event. Lynn Rapsilber, DNP, APRN, will lead a session where she will discuss the state’s scope of practice process for advanced practice registered nurses. Nanette Alexander, DNP, APRN, and Danielle Morgan, MSN, CNS, will lead a session on writing and presenting testimony at a public hearing.
