Quinnipiac University will offer a town scholarship for North Haven residents. The scholarship is equivalent to 75% of full-time tuition.
The commitment of the university is eight scholarships totaling $300,000 per year once the program is fully implemented.
“QU is fortunate to have one of our three campuses nestled in the vibrant town of North Haven and to enjoy a strong and fruitful partnership,” said Bethany Zemba, Vice President for Strategy and Community Relations. “QU is proud to offer this scholarship program to deserving undergraduate North Haven residents.”
Quinnipiac also offers a similar scholarship to residents of Hamden.
The new scholarship is available for qualified full-time students entering Quinnipiac as first-time students and is renewable for up to four years or the remainder of the undergraduate degree, whichever comes first, with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
“I am greatly appreciative of the generosity of Quinnipiac University in developing this program and for offering these scholarships to our eligible North Haven students,” said Michael Freda, the town’s first selectman. “These scholarships not only serve as a symbol that defines the outstanding relationship that this government has with the university, but the scholarships will also perpetuate the important level of enhanced learning that will create wonderful opportunities for our eligible North Haven students.”
In addition, Quinnipiac has committed to a new annual book award at North Haven High School. The award, given to a junior with outstanding leadership qualities and academics, includes a minimum scholarship of $15,000 per year to the university and waives the application fee.
The winner also will receive a copy of the book, “You Got This Kid! Words of Advice for Young Leaders,”which was written by Quinnipiac alumni and Board of Trustees member Chuck Saia, as well as a VIP tour and lunch with Saia and Tom Ellett, the university’s chief experience officer.
