HARTFORD — State Rep. Dave Yaccarino, Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, on Wednesday supported legislation that would help military veterans transition into civilian life with entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture-based businesses.
Rep. Yaccarino co-sponsored the proposal, which unanimously passed the House of Representatives.
The proposal H.B. 6375 creates a veterans agriculture program that provides tax incentives. It also requires the Department of Agriculture to work with the departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Labor to provide guidance as well as education and training concerning farming or agricultural operations.
“I am always willing to support our veterans, especially with their return home and their pursuit of a job,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “This is a great proposal and I look forward to its passage.”
The program would be available to veterans who have never engaged in agricultural production or to those who have been involved in agricultural production for less than two years.
The bill awaits action in the state senate.
