State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven), ranking member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, received a Connecticut Police Chiefs’ Association (CPCA) Carroll J. Hughes Legislator of the Year award at the organization’s winter meeting at the Double Tree Hotel in Bristol yesterday, Dec. 14, 2023.
The CPCA Carroll J. Hughes Legislator of the Year award is named in honor of longtime lobbyist Carroll J. Hughes and is presented annually to lawmakers who have worked to support initiatives and legislation important to law enforcement. Hughes was a longtime and well-respected lobbyist who worked with the CPCA, and other organizations.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Connecticut Police Chiefs’ Association, whose members are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for families in the 34th District and across the state, and ensuring that everyone is treated equally under the law. I will continue to introduce and support legislation that enables our police chiefs to lead their departments for the benefit of public safety. In fact, one of the main solutions to the public safety problems that we face today in Connecticut is to support our local and state police,” said Sen. Cicarella.
Sen. Cicarella has been widely recognized as a champion for Connecticut’s law enforcment professionals, having also received a Police Officers Association of Connecticut (POACT) Legislative Leadership award in October of this year.
