State Sen. Paul Cicarella has again earned the endorsements of the Connecticut State Police Union and the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut in his campaign for reelection to the 34th State Senate District. Both public safety organizations have supported Cicarella since his first campaign for the state Senate in 2020, continuing a relationship that has spanned his time in office.
Cicarella, the ranking Senate Republican on the General Assembly’s Public Safety and Security Committee, has worked on issues affecting police officers, firefighters and other first responders throughout his tenure in the state Senate.
“I’m incredibly honored to have the support of the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” Cicarella said. “Our police officers and firefighters do difficult, dangerous jobs, and they deserve to know that the people they protect have their backs. I’ve been proud to stand with our first responders at the Capitol, and I will continue listening to them and fighting to make sure they have the resources, training and support they need to do their jobs safely.”
The Connecticut State Police Union represents state troopers, while the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut represents professional firefighters through 60 IAFF locals across the state.
Cicarella has made public safety and support for first responders a focus of his legislative work. During the 2026 legislative session, he co-sponsored public safety legislation and continued to serve as ranking Senate Republican on the Public Safety and Security Committee. Earlier this year, he joined law enforcement organizations, including the Connecticut State Police Union, for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, where he highlighted recruitment and retention challenges facing police departments.
In a Sept. 23 endorsement letter on behalf of its members, Connecticut State Police Union President Todd Fedigan wrote, “This endorsement comes as a result of your continued support for public safety and the issues our union has faced in the past. Your commitment to public safety and Trooper safety is truly appreciated by the entire Union membership.”
The Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut also thanked Cicarella for his support for professional firefighters across the state. “Good luck and thank you for your support of professional fire fighter issues, including issues of importance to the fire service at large,” association president Peter Brown and Director of Legislative and Political Affairs Jeffrey Tomchik wrote. “We are proud of our association with you and look forward to our continued partnership.”
Cicarella went on to talk about why these endorsements are particularly meaningful.
“These endorsements mean a great deal to me because they come directly from the people doing this work every day,” Cicarella said. “They understand what it takes to keep our communities safe, and I value the trust they have placed in me. I look forward to continuing our work together.”
Cicarella represents the 34th State Senate District, which includes Durham, East Haven, North Haven, Northford, and Wallingford.
