Charles Collier of North Haven, assistant dean for health care pathways at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, was recently elected to a two-year term as president of the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME).

As president, Collier is responsible for leading NAMME’s governing board to develop its membership, student outreach and partnerships with other national organizations with similar missions.

“Being NAMME president provides a platform to elevate the discussion about the need to increase the number of underrepresented populations in the health care workforce,” Collier said. “We believe it is important that our institutions of higher learning and other policy stakeholders hear from organizations such as ours, for the support and advocacy of students who are underrepresented in medicine.”

Established in 1975, the National Association of Medical Minority Educators is dedicated to developing and sustaining productive relationships as well as action-oriented programs among national and regional stakeholders who work to ensure racial and ethnic diversity in all health professions. NAMME also seeks to provide critical guidance and professional development opportunities for individuals dedicated to these efforts and the students they serve.

Collier, who joined Quinnipiac in 2012, has a master’s degree in counseling education from Emporia State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Mercer University.
