Rep. Yaccarino Named to His Second Term as Ranking Member of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) has been named to his second term as Ranking Member of the legislature’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs by House Republican Leader Themis Klarides.

State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) has been named to his second term as Ranking Member of the legislature’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs by House Republican Leader Themis Klarides. The Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is responsible for all matters relating to military and veterans’ affairs, except veterans’ pensions. For the 2015-2017 legislative session, Rep. Yaccarino will be the highest appointed position of the Republican Party on the committee.

“My main concerns as we enter into the 2015 legislative session will be to once again make Connecticut a friendly place to live and do business in,” Yaccarino said. “During my monthly coffee hours with constituents I’ve repeatedly heard their concerns with our state’s fiscal condition – I want us to rebuild Connecticut and make it the thriving state it once was.”

He also announced his legislative committee assignments for the upcoming two years. Rep. Yaccarino will also serve on the legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, Public Safety and Security Committee and Energy and Technology Committee.

The Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee oversee all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees and taxation. The committee is also responsible for employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue. The Public Safety and Security Committee has cognizance of all matters relating The Public Safety and Security Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to homeland security, the Department of Public Safety, including state police, state organized task force on crime, municipal police training, fire marshals, the fire safety code and the state building code, civil preparedness and legalized gambling, and military and veterans’ affairs, except veterans’ pensions. The Energy and Technology Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Public Utility Control and energy planning and activities.

Rep. Yaccarino took the oath of office and was sworn in by Secretary of State Denise Merrill on Wednesday afternoon in the State House Chamber. He then participated in a Joint Convention of both the House of Representatives and Senate as Gov. Dannel Malloy addressed lawmakers about the 2015 Session. Rep. Yaccarino is serving his 3rd term in the State House.
