More than 60 Connecticut spelling champions, who earned their spots by winning local spelling bees in their school districts, will compete at Quinnipiac. Among the school districts that will be represented are: Andover, Ansonia, Bloomfield, Bridgeport, Brookfield, Clinton, Danbury, East Haven, Easton, Capitol Region Education Council, Glastonbury, Granby, Greenwich, Guilford, Hartford, Monroe, East Lyme, North Branford, Stonington, Ridgefield, Thomaston, Vernon, Waterbury, Watertown, Westbrook, West Hartford and West Haven. Students from several private schools also will compete.

Kevin Basmadjian, dean of the School of Education, said, “In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise, a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts and athletics. The School of Education at Quinnipiac is looking forward to hosting what I am sure will be a highly competitive spelling bee.”

The public is invited to attend, but seating is limited. Please call 203-582-3354 to reserve a seat.
