Gaylord Specialty Healthcare Raises Awareness During National Brain Injury Awareness Month

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, a long-term acute care hospital that specializes in the care and treatment of people with medically complex and intensive rehabilitation issues, is committed to helping people adapt to disability created by a brain injury.

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month, designed to raise awareness and educate the public on prevention, research, and treatment of brain injuries. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can happen anytime, anywhere, and to anyone. In fact, 2.4 million people sustain brain injuries in the United States each year, resulting in a lifetime of physical, cognitive, and behavioral challenges.

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, a long-term acute care hospital that specializes in the care and treatment of people with medically complex and intensive rehabilitation issues, is committed to helping people adapt to disability created by a brain injury.

“At Gaylord, our care team begins planning for the patient’s treatment even before his or her arrival, said Dr. Stephen Holland, Chief Medical Officer. “Since every brain injury is different, an individualized program is developed by consulting with doctors, family members, loved ones and other service providers to ensure a collaborative and personalized approach to care.”

The inpatient component of Gaylord’s Brain Injury program treats patients emerging from coma following injury. Patients with brain injuries are guided through a continuum of care that takes them from post-coma stages through community reentry. An Early Recovery Brain Injury program is available for patients who are not yet able to tolerate an aggressive therapy schedule, but are expected to progress to a traditional, intensive rehabilitation program. Gaylord’s outpatient rehabilitation maximizes independence and community reintegration skills.
