Approximately 25 area middle and high school students with special needs visited Quinnipiac University’s North Haven Campus May 31, to take part in “Fun in the Sun,” a day of events including tennis, karaoke, relay races and dancing.

“Fun in the Sun” was organized by Valerie Strange, clinical associate professor of occupational therapy, Tracy Van Oss, clinical associate professor of occupational therapy, Stephanie Jacobson, assistant professor of social work, 24 Quinnipiac students from occupational therapy and the university’s physician assistant and social work programs, Athan Crist, president of The Agape Society, and Bob Moore, owner of Moore PT.

“We were so excited to host this event for area students with special needs who had an opportunity to explore leisure pursuits along with our university student volunteers,” Strange said. “While the event is a new endeavor, we hope to create lasting friendships with this community of youth.”

A picnic lunch was provided and participants received prizes, T-shirts and photos.
