Three local experts will take part in the panel discussion, “The Real Story Behind Safe Schools,” from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Center for Medicine, Nursing and Health Science, MNH-101, at Quinnipiac University’s North Haven Campus, 370 Bassett Road. The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session from 7-7:30 p.m. A pre-event reception will be held from 5-5:45 p.m. This program, sponsored by the School of Education, is free and open to the public.
The guest speakers include Dr. Fay Brown, associate research scientist and director of the Child and Adolescent Development School Development Program at the Yale Child Study Center and Comer School Development Program, Marlene De Bellis, a school-based social worker at the Side by Side Charter School in Norwalk, and Judy Puglisi, a recent principal at Metropolitan Business Academy, an inter-district magnet high school in New Haven.
“This talk will provide a different lens to the school violence debate by looking at interdisciplinary examples of leadership and school structures that foster safe schooling environments,” said Jennifer Dauphinais, visiting assistant professor of education. “Our speakers will address the unique concerns and student needs in the post-Columbine era.”
