Quinnipiac University medical students to host silent auction to benefit Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS)

The auction will feature items donated by members of the Quinnipiac community and local refugee women to raise funds for IRIS, a non-profit organization that works to resettle refugees in Connecticut.

Students at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University will host a silent auction to benefit Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS) from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Center for Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Quinnipiac, 370 Bassett Road.

The auction will feature items donated by members of the Quinnipiac community and local refugee women to raise funds for IRIS, a non-profit organization that works to resettle refugees in Connecticut. In 2016, more than 450 refugees received settlement assistance with a wide-range of services to help them to become self-sufficient. IRIS receives funding from the federal government, but relies on donations.

Among the donated items are Quinnipiac hockey tickets, dance lessons and artwork created by medical students. During the event, there also will be educational activities, including a keynote speaker, live music, refreshments and a raffle.

“This event is focused on educating our community about local refugees and ways with which we can support the community of refugees in Connecticut,” said Nicole Gherlone, a medical student who is among the event organizers.
