Richard A. Zeff, Ph.D., of Bloomfield, has been appointed chair and professor of medical sciences and senior associate dean of scholarship at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

In his new position, Zeff oversees approximately 30 faculty members in the Department of Medical Sciences and is responsible for the departmental budget, recruiting and maintaining faculty, mentoring junior faculty and developing areas of scholarship in medical education and research for both faculty and students.

“I am thrilled to be serving as chair of the department of medical sciences and senior associate dean of scholarship at the Frank Netter School of Medicine,” Zeff said. “The opportunity to bring my many years of experience in academic medicine and administration to the chair’s position is a dream come true, and I look forward to working with the extraordinary faculty members and students at Quinnipiac University. “

Zeff has a doctorate from Rush University and a bachelor’s degree from Temple University. He completed his post-doctoral work at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s department of cell biology. Before coming to Quinnipiac, Zeff was a professor of immunology and assistant dean of admissions at the University of Connecticut Health Center, where he was an award-winning professor who received the Outstanding Teaching Award for basic medical sciences numerous times between 1992 and 2015.

“Dr. Zeff has had a distinguished career in academic medicine, both as a basic science researcher, and most recently as an administrator,” said Dr. Bruce Koeppen, dean of the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. “Importantly, he has a decades-long history of exceptional medical student teaching. We are fortunate to have him as chair of the school’s department of medical sciences, and look to him to support both students and faculty in their pursuit of scholarly activities, as well as his many contributions to our teaching mission.”
