Age of Champions,” an award-winning PBS documentary, will be screened from 6:30-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, in the Mount Carmel Auditorium in the Center for Communications and Engineering at Quinnipiac University, 275 Mount Carmel Ave. The screening is free and open to the public.

“This documentary defies stereotypes about aging by showing age is just a number,” said Catherine Solomon, professor and chair of the department of sociology, criminal justice and anthropology. “It illustrates that how we often view getting older is based on myth, not fact.”

The documentary, directed by Christopher Rufo and produced by Keith Ochwat, follows five athletes who compete in the National Senior Olympics who discover the power of the human spirit and triumph over the limitations of age. After the screening, a panel of senior Olympians will discuss their experiences and answer questions.

“By watching these senior athletes, all over 65 years old, you’ll realize there is much to look forward to in growing older, and become inspired to stay active your whole life,” said Solomon, who organized the event.

“Age of Champions” premiered at the Silverdocs Film Festival in 2011 and has been shown at more than 1,000 venues around the world. To learn more about the documentary, please visit http://ageofchampions.org/.
