Quinnipiac University’s School of Nursing has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Gertrude E. Skelly Charitable Foundation. The gift will be used to support nursing students with scholarships and emergency financial assistance in times of a serious need.

“The Gertrude E. Skelly Scholarship is an investment that will have a profound impact not only on our students’ lives, but on the lives of their families,” said Janet Headley, director of corporate and foundation relations at Quinnipiac.

Jean Lange, founding dean of the School of Nursing, underscored the importance of having access to emergency discretionary funds.

“Many students in our program make significant sacrifices to become a nurse, and sometimes things happen during their course of study that may interfere with their ability to continue in the program,” she said. “These funds will allow us to lend a helping hand to students when it’s most needed.”

The Gertrude E. Skelly Charitable Foundation provides educational opportunities, primarily at colleges and universities, as well as medical care for those who cannot afford it.

Quinnipiac University’s School of Nursing, which is located on the university’s North Haven Campus, offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs to nearly 700 students each year. The school’s mission is to provide leadership in nursing and health care through innovative undergraduate and graduate education that embraces holism, interprofessionalism and inclusivity. The BSN, MSN and DNP programs at Quinnipiac are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The nurse anesthesia program has been approved by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
