North Haven’s Luigi Ciarleglio Awarded HBRA Scholarship

The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of New Haven County recently awarded their yearly scholarships for students pursuing careers in the home building industry.  Scholarships are available to members of the HBRA & students throughout New Haven County.

The two categories of scholarships that are given yearly in May include:

  • One for someone entering the Design/Drafting field (GEIB), and,
  • One for someone entering any construction related field (Mark A. Barrie Memorial Scholarship.)  This scholarship was named after the son of our previous Executive Officer – Vi Shwab – who served our association for over two decades.

Our 2013 Mark A. Barrie Memorial Scholarship recipient is Luigi Ciarleglio of North Haven.

Luigi will be entering the construction management program at Central Connecticut State University where he has been accepted.  He made the 2013 Honor Roll at North Haven High School.

Luigi was born into a family history of construction since his grandfather was a mason and his father, Remodeler of the Year Joe Ciarleglio, started Luanci Construction when he was in his 20s.  Luigi got to go along with his father to job sites when he was older and spent this past year working for his father and learning how to apply siding, tile a bathroom, put on roofing and more.  When he graduates from college, Luigi plans to come back home and continue the family business.

The HBRA congratulates Luigi and wishes him the best in his educational and career pursuits.  For information on available scholarships, please contact the HBRA office at 877.414.2537 or via email.  Applications are for high school seniors and are accepted between December 1 and April 1.
